DataConnect

DataConnect is how you reformat and pass vector and raster data between your desktop and the mobile GISRoam client.

DataConnect has two included parts: LocalConnect and WebConnect included

DataConnect provides a number of different ways for transferring your data data based on your needs:

  • LocalConnect- In app purchase to enable moving GIS Vector and Raster data between your desktop and GISRoam using a USB cable and iTunes (no network required).
    • LocalConnect includes tools to automatically convert your source data to GISRoam formats and projections in the following formats:
    • Elevation in the form of DTED, DEM, ARCGrid, GEOTIFF, SRTM, XYZ Grid, and BIL.
    • Imagery in the form of MRsid, ECW, IMG, GeoTIFF/TIFF/BIG TIFF, JPG2K, JPG, DOQQ, and NITF (RPF).
    • Vectors in the form of Shapefiles and MapInfo.
    • LocalConnect includes tool to develop custom forms for displaying your attribution data in more user friendly layout.
    • LocalConnect support importing shapefiles and raster GIS data and exporting collected/modified shapefiles.
    • With latest version you can now load directly converted files into WebConnect
  • WebConnect – When LocalConnect is enabled so is WebConnect.
    • WebConnect supports only vector conversion and access from GISRoam by 3G/WiFi
    • Supports the same vector formats as LocalConnect
    • Supports both uploading new vectors and download new vectors saved to it from GISRoam
    • Note: WebConnect direct interface is being phased out to be replaced by the new LocalConnect tool previewed in latest LocalConnect release.
  • All these technologies are doing the same thing just for different target data formats and delivery methods. 1) Making sure the format and projection of the data files is compatible with the GISRoam client application.  2) Copying the source files from your machine to the iOS client application. The source data is then locally stored on the GISRoam iPhone/iPad device and does not require an internet connection to be viewed or edited.
